Last week, Ryan Reynolds met with royalty.
He greeted King Charles III and Camilla, the Queen Consort, to the soccer field in Wrexham, Wales, on Friday morning. He and fellow actor and friend Rob McElhenney also co-own the Wrexham Football Club in Wales. Their encounter was captured on camera, and it could appear in Reynolds and McElhenney’s Welcome to Wrexham documentary series on Hulu, which details the actors’ choice to buy the Wrexham soccer club in 2020 and work to rehabilitate it.
“There is so much riding on the success of this club with every single individual in Wrexham. It’s a lot to carry, but I’m not complaining. It’s been one of the greatest rides of my life,” Reynolds discussed purchasing the club in an earlier interview with The Athletic. In an interview, he also said that his wife, Blake Lively, was displeased that he hadn’t asked her opinion before making the significant purchase.
When conversing, joking, and shaking hands with the royals, Reynolds and McElhenney were captured on camera. Even while they were on the field, Reynolds and King Charles appeared to be having some inside jokes.
“I had the opportunity to see one of the other wonders of Wrexham, namely the football club, which is busy putting Wrexham on the map as never before,” the king said in a speech after the visit. “And, of course, this comes after the Welsh national team has brought unprecedented international recognition to Wales through qualifying for the World Cup.”
Reynolds shared an Instagram post with a picture of himself and the British queen to commemorate the significant occasion. Welcome to Wrexham Season 2: Charles in Charge, he said in the post with his Reynolds humor.
He included a picture of King Charles, Camilla, McElhenney, and himself on the field and captioned it, “Actual royalty.”
