Instead of a shirt, Nas chose a set of glistening black slacks, a gilded feather cage overskirt, and a custom headpiece made by British-American designer Harris Reed for his entrance down the carpet.

Fans who pay close attention may have noticed the look at this year’s Met Gala, where supermodel Iman wore a stunning gold version created in partnership between Reed and Dolce & Gabbana.

Nas’s innovative sense of fashion has always been renowned. At the VMAs a year ago, the celebrity appeared in a Versace custom-made lavender tuxedo with a coordinating cape train. The dress’ jacket and trouser hems were covered in purple glitter, and its asymmetrical neckline was also covered in sparkles. Having matched lilac boots, he completed the ensemble. According to Essence, the look at the time appeared to be a nod to Lil’ Kim’s famous purple, breast-baring jumpsuit from the 1999 VMAs.

During the 2019 VMAs, Nas wore a suit by Christian Cowan that was embellished with silver sequins and lacy frills. Additionally, he sported a pair of Pskaufman cowboy boots with matching hand-painted glitter.

The rapper is up for seven prizes tonight, including Best Choreography, Artist of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Direction, Best Art Direction, and Video of the Year.
