Nigerian movie director and producer Jade Osiberu has teased her upcoming film, Christmas in Lagos, with a focus on Afrobeats. Scheduled to premiere on December 20, the trailer, which has garnered significant attention, follows four friends navigating friendship, love, and loss during Lagos’ “Detty December” festivities, taking cues from “Love Actually.”
The film follows Fiyin, who is dealing with a heartbreak and considering a relationship with her best friend, Elo, who plans to propose to his secret girlfriend. Gbemi, a middle-aged woman, is torn between her boyfriend and a past lover, while Ivie, a London-raised girl, unexpectedly falls in love with Ajani.
It showcases a remarkable ensemble cast, hinting at the diverse and dynamic characters that will navigate the festive landscape of Lagos during the exuberant season known as Detty December which has been long been characterised by a whirlwind of parties, celebrations, and cultural festivities, setting the stage for intriguing interactions and unexpected encounters among the characters.
The ensemble cast features the talented Teniola A. Aladese, the charismatic Shalom C. Obiago, the dynamic Rayxia Ojo, and the captivating Shaffy Bello. Adding an exciting layer to the production, viewers can look forward to on-screen appearances from some of the most influential figures in the Afrobeats scene. Among them is the 22-year-old vocal powerhouse Starr, whose rise to fame has been nothing short of meteoric. Also gracing the screen is the renowned singer-songwriter Adekunle Gold, known for his innovative sound and lyrical prowess.
