At this point, it’s plain to see that whatever Funke Akindele touches turns to gold. Her latest movie endeavor, “A Tribe Called Judah,” has officially grossed the 1 billion naira mark at the Nigerian box office, according to FilmOne Distribution via Instagram, making it the fastest Nollywood film to accomplish this target and the highest-grossing Nollywood film ever.

Released in December 2023, the drama, directed by Funke Akindele and co-produced by Funke and Adeoluwa Owu, includes actors like Nse Ikpe Etim, Juliana Olayode, Uzor Arukwe, Fathia Balogun, Uzee Usman, Tobi Makinde, Olumide Oworu, Jide Kene Achufusi, Funke Akindele herself, and Timini Egbuson. The film follows a single mother who plans to steal a mall with her five boys, but another set of robbers disrupts their plans.

How A Tribe Called Judah Has Become So Successful

As expected, the Funke Akindele Film has been highly praised by critics and audiences, earning praise as one of Funke’s best works (others include her “Omo Ghetto: The Saga” and “Battle on Buka Street” movies). The film features a talented cast, including Funke, who brings in next-level acting skills. The movie itself has become a historical box office sensation, with the film’s success attributed to its strong performances and the success of the social media and theater sensation, which has become a significant box office success.

FilmHouse Group’s CEO, Kene Okwuosa, praised the success of the Nigerian film “A Tribe Called Judah” in reaching the one billion Naira mark in record time. He credited viewers for their support, despite global streaming competition. The historic achievement, achieved less than a month after its premiere, is similar to the only other movie to gross one billion naira at the West African Box Office, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”
