Duchess Meghan Shines in A Ruffled Maxi Dress at Women in Leadership Event in Nigeria

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex returned to their “royal” tour mode, visiting Nigeria for 72 hours, and their wardrobe choices have been a significant part of their visit. Attending a Women in Leadership panel cohosted by the Duchess with Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Meghan wore a red maxi dress.

Made by Nigerian designer Orire, it included barely-there straps and a ruffled bottom. She paired it with a diamond tennis necklace, gold bangle bracelets, and a diamond ring. Completing with nude stilettos and slicked back her dark hair. The event, attended by 50 leading Nigerian women, featured a panel discussion moderated by Mo Abudu, who runs Africa’s first global black entertainment lifestyle network.

Recentlty discovering her Nigrian heritage, Meghan Markle expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and the opportunity to learn about her African-American roots. Meghan first called her mother to inquire about her awareness of her heritage. The process was eye-opening and humbling. Abudu joked that the audience would have to decide on a Nigerian name for Meghan.

Meghan emphasized the importance of representation in the workplace and the need for women to be familiar faces for the next generation. She emphasized that success is not defined by leaving home, but by coming home and shifting generational patterns. Meghan hoped to be a role model for many young women, stating that being a woman doesn’t always mean being serious and strong.
