‘Queen Charlotte’ Arsema Thomas Wore African Designers For Her Press Tour

Born in Atlanta to a Nigerian father and an Ethiopian mother, Arsema Thomas has surely taken the film world by storm. Since her debut as the fiery Lady Agatha Danbury in Shondaland’s Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, Arsema has wasted no time in embracing her African roots, not only as a nationality but also in her hair choice and looks for the promotional tour. The African designers she championed include Nigerian designers Lulla House and Nkwo, South African designers Viviers Studio, and Ghanaian designer KWASI Paul.

Joining over 700 people at The National Gallery, including notable figures like Yinka Ilori, Philip Colbert, Lily Bertrand-Webb, Bettina Korek, and Maya Jama, Arsema wore Nigeria’s Lisa Folawiyo’s black confetti dress. The event was inspired by the exhibition After Impressionism: Inventing Modern Art, celebrating artistic freedom and the birth of modern art.

An upgrade to the black slip dress, the look featured cutout detailing and an assymetic hem with strap details. She completed the attire with sandal pumps and minimal jewelry, giving the sultry look all the attention it deserves.

For the George Club Private Preview Party and Netflix’s redcarpet event in South Africa, Arsema looked to South Africa’s Ezokhetho. Each look was worn beautifully with African inspired hair – bantu knots and gravity defying plaits.

She also attended Netflix’s “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story” at SAG-AFTRA Foundation Screening Room in April wearing a tailored Agbada from Nigeria’s NKWO which she paired with platform sandals and maultiple silver jewelry. And for the Essence 16th Annual Black Women in Hollywood Awards at Fairmont Century Plaza Arsema wore a sleeveless patchwork for Laurenceairline.

From SA’s Viviers Studio she wore a distressed sculptural strappless gown to the a Special Fan Screening and Garden Party for “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story” at Odeon Luxe Leicester Square and a boxy 2 piece set.

Then, she wore the Otis V Line from Ghana’s Kwasi Paul for an appearance on the view. The organic handwowen blazer featured a deep V line from the shoulder to mid bodice, and two pleats on the back which she paired with a matching shorts.

In another instagram post, she wore a 3-piece burnt orange suit frm Durban’ s Amada Laird Cherry. Accessories included multiple gold statement jewelry.

When it came down to prints, there was the Cute Saints Omo Eko 2 piece from Nigeria’s Cute Saint and the Love Letter set from Abigail Ajobi. Then there’s the Lulla House zia set with bead detailing she wore to the FYSEE’23 event.
