At that same event shortly after a mindblowing performance she took home the Breakthrough Award from Savannah James all the while wearing a hooded cloak dress. Made famous in the ’80s, the look has been seen on celebrities like Addison Rae, Kate Moss, and Bella Hadid. Tems outfit consisted of a body framing silhouette with short-sleeves and a plunging detailing at the chest and an attached hood, which framed her new bantu knots. She accessorized sparingly, with matching heeled sandals and and an array of sparkling rings and bangles.

Tems dedicated her award to her mother, who broke Yoruba tradition by choosing her daughter’s name Témìládè Openiyi, a role traditionally reserved for the father’s side of the family, as God told her.

“I really want to use this opportunity to say to all the women in the room, in the world, that no matter what you’re going through, you should know you’re not alone. So even when you’re sad, even when you’re angry, there’s someone that’s angry, too. So uplift everybody around you because they need that like you and somebody’s there for you,” she concluded her speech. “It’s the women that got the women, trust me.”
