Duro Olowu’s Spring Summer 2021 collection is Inspired by Feminist Artist Emma Amos

As a skillful storyteller, it’s no surprise Duro Olowu’s spring summer collection was inspired by artist Emma Amos -the celebrated African-American figurative artist who sadly passed away earlier this year.

The Nigerian born artist who is an artist himself tells VOGUE – “I was looking at her work a lot. I love the way she used colour. She had this unexpected, striking mix which really made an impact,”

“But beyond her art, she was the only female member of Spiral, the African-American painting group formed in the Sixties to debate the political role of black artists. She challenged racism and sexism – she was incredibly stylish too.”

A noticeable feature in the collection is Amos’s true to life sense of colour materializing in Olowu’s clashing print combinations.
