Be Naya by Beverly Naya Is Everything Ankara

Beverly Naya has been changing the narrative of African women one step at a time. Not to long ago the British-born Nigerian actress tackled the issue of colorism with her documentary on Netflix titled “Skin.” Unlike racism, colorism is the discrimination of people based on skin shades. The hour long documentary compiles the stories of Black women in Nigeria who have been treated differently for having dark skin. They speak openly about the pressures of being defined by their skin color.

Taking another bold step – the actress launched a fashion brand Be Naya which features clothes made with African prints popularly known as Ankara. Show casing the African woman in her full glory the line up offers a modernized approach fit to the latest fashion trends, while still keeping its unique style.

And while African prints have steadily been gaining International recognition we love to see the versatility these prints have to offer. Gone are the days when Ankara fabrics and styles were considered boring – new league of designers are paving the way for this fabric to truly shine and gain acceptance both locally and internationally.
